Lankan Tamil immigrants in Canada visited by UNHCR
Written by CNS

The UN high commissioner for refugees had visited seventy-six Sri Lankan Tamils presently under detention in Canada for illegal entry, 'Vancouverite' reported. The Canada Border Services Agency said the UNHCR has not expressed any concerns about the treatment of the illegal immigrants. Authorities have completed interviews with most of the group and hearings about their status will commence this week, it said. They were nabbed off British Columbia in a ship named 'Ocean Lady.' All of them remain in detention while authorities determine whether they had any ties with the LTTE.
